Role Summary
The Assistant Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial reporting and accounting operations for a group of assigned ambulatory surgery centers, corporate, and holding entities within the Compass portfolio. This includes ensuring the integrity of financial statements, maintaining strong internal controls, supporting acquisition integration, and directly supervising the AP function.
This position will be based out of our corporate office in Raleigh, NC, and requires a hands-on, proactive individual who can communicate effectively across departments, manage multiple priorities, and serve as a trusted partner to both the finance team and operational leaders.
What You’ll Do
Financial Reporting & Accuracy
- Review monthly and quarterly financial statements for assigned ASCs, corporate, and holding entities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to GAAP
- Collaborate with the Controller and CFO to ensure timely and accurate financial close processes
Balance Sheet Oversight
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all items are properly supported and resolved in a timely manner
- Monitor and improve reconciliation processes to strengthen internal controls and financial accuracy
Internal Controls & Process Improvement
- Support the design, implementation, and monitoring of internal controls across accounting workflows
- Partner with internal teams to streamline accounting processes, particularly during onboarding of new centers
- Ensure controls are aligned with best practices and audit readiness
Accounts Payable Oversight
- Supervise the day-to-day activities of the AP Specialist, ensuring timely and accurate payment processing and vendor management
- Support the implementation of standardized AP procedures across centers and corporate functions
Special Projects & Strategic Support
- Lead or support ad hoc financial projects as assigned by the CFO or Controller, including process improvement initiatives, system implementations, and financial analysis
- Assist in onboarding and training both Compass and ASC-level team members on accounting tools and procedures
What You’ll Bring
- Active CPA license required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in public accounting or a corporate accounting environment; healthcare experience is a plus
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual-based accounting principles
- Familiarity with the equity method of accounting is strongly preferred
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, SUMIF, and similar functions
- Experience with accounting systems such as Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, JD Edwards, SAP, or similar platforms
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex financial information to non-finance audiences
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Self-starter with a high level of accountability and attention to detail
- Strong sense of ownership and responsiveness to both internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to delegate effectively while providing mentorship and oversight
- Collaborative team player with the ability to work cross-functionally and contribute to a culture of service, accuracy, and continuous improvement

For candidates residing in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington State, and Washington D.C., the standard base salary range for this role is $80,000 – $100,000 annually. This range applies only to these listed locations and may not reflect compensation in other areas.
In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual performance-based bonus. Actual compensation will vary based on experience, qualifications, and company and individual performance.
